The Freedom Restoration Project (FRP) is a nonprofit organization led by women and survivors that supports displaced women and children from Myanmar who have experienced gender-based violence (GBV). Through shelter, counseling, and livelihood programs, FRP provides pathways to safety, stability, and independence and is grounded in a deep cultural understanding of Thailand’s border communities.
Founded in 2017, FRP operates the only non-traditional residential shelter in Mae Sot, offering integrated support that includes: psychological counseling, legal aid, child protection, education, and vocational training.
In January 2026, we met in Thailand with the founder, Ms. Sia Kukaewkasem, who asked us to collaborate with her organization to provide funding for the construction of a dedicated vocational training space at FRP’s Selah Center, to serve the women in the shelter and the Mae Sot community.
FRP currently lacks adequate space for group training and generally has to rent a venue to accommodate large groups or limit the number of participants based on their current space.
This space would benefit:
To women residing at the FRP shelter
To migrant women from surrounding communities who lack local resources or support networks.
To members of the FRP peer support group (a support group for women still living in abusive households).
- To the children of these women, when single mothers do not have childcare arrangements in place to attend training sessions.
Work began in March 2026 and is expected to be completed by the end of April 2026, before the rainy season begins.
Total cost: 6,400 CHF
