Nicaragua: The Start of a Wonderful Adventure with Our First Project
La Esperanza Elementary School (1994)
It is located on one of the Isletas de Granada on Lake Nicaragua. In 1994, it had about 100 students aged 6 to 16. In 1997, it was designated by the Ministry of Education as a model for rural schools in Nicaragua.

La Esperanza Kindergarten (2000)
A former student of the elementary school was teaching the youngest children under a tree. The parents organized themselves to build a school in less than a month.

Casares Kindergarten (1998)
This school is located in a fishing village on the Pacific coast that was hit by a tsunami in 1992. Thanks to 23 families, the school for 150 children was built in two months, complete with a school kitchen.
Renamed the Cédric Martin School, it was inaugurated in February 1998.
Total cost: 18,700 CHF
In 2012, the septic tank, which had collapsed, was rebuilt, and the electrical system was brought up to code.

Segundo Enriquez School (2001)
Located at the foot of the Mombacho volcano, the school was in a dilapidated state. A new school for 42 students, spanning six elementary grades, was inaugurated in January 2001 and renamed Cédric Martin.

Masaya Preschool (2002)
The Los Pollitos de Cailagua kindergarten was unsanitary and severely damaged by Hurricane Mitch. It was rebuilt by the parents of the 70 students aged 5 to 7 and inaugurated in June 2002.

Charco Muerto Elementary School (2004)
Located on the shores of Lake Nicaragua and difficult to access, the hamlet of Charco Muerto has a teacher but no school to accommodate its 85 children. The new Ariana School was inaugurated in May 2004.
Total cost: 10,500 CHF
In 2012, a chain-link fence was installed around the school to protect its vegetable garden.

El Chilamate Elementary School (2006)
The Ruben Dario School was damaged by the 2002 earthquake and was in danger of collapsing. Our late friend and artist Luis Flores encouraged the parents to develop the project. Over the course of three months, 30 fathers built the new school for 215 students, which was inaugurated in October 2006.
