Practical Assistance in Remote Areas
Physiotherapy Project in the Mahajanga Region of Madagascar (2018)
MOST Association supported a project to develop physiotherapist in the Mahajanga region of Madagascar and provide accessible care to everyone in the area.
This project was identified and implemented by Sarah Leimgruber, a Swiss physical therapist.
She had previously spent several months in 2013 volunteering at the Aina Vao clinic in Mahajanga, which had no physiotherapy services. During that time, she observed critical needs in this area and therefore launched this project.
After raising the necessary funds, Sarah worked at the clinic from January to December 2018. During that year, the physiotherapy service was established, and many patients were able to receive care and treatment at home. Training was provided to the medical staff to ensure the project’s long-term sustainability. Sarah was also able to hire a Malagasy physiotherapist so that care could continue after Sarah’s return to Switzerland.
You can find a summary of her mission on her blog at https://www.sarahmada.blogspot.com
Initial project cost: 5,000 CHF; contribution from the MOST association: 2,000 CHF.
Sarah extends her heartfelt thanks to MOST’s donors for their invaluable support.
